The Difference Between Imagination and Creation

I had an idea of what my completed photograph should look like today, but unfortunately I couldn't quite transfer what was in my head to the screen. Frustrating. Although I am good with Photoshop, there is still a lot of learning in store for me yet!

Colourful_Bubbles_Portrait

Above is the final image. I had hoped to place bubbles (yes bubbles again) around me. Then I was going to somehow put little images of cute things inside the bubbles, and the bubbles would thus represent what inspires me. I just couldn't manage to put it altogether. Hopefully I'll figure it out in the future, for now the alternative is simply surrounding myself with colourful scatterings of bubbles.

First Cut! Film Festival

Firstly, I better apologise for my online absence over the past week. I was enjoying a holiday in England and I hardly had time to update my Twitter with a mere 140 characters, let alone post here!

Chris and Jess at the beach during our trip to Newquay

Anyway, now that I have been reunited with my cherished laptop and familiar bedroom, I have a SpunOut link to share. If you have filmed something you consider award worthy recently, then why don't you seek some priceless recognition? First Cut! Youth Film Festival are looking for short films made by under 21 year olds. All the information is here if you are tempted.

While I would love to win an award for my film making (or for any media-related project) I find it difficult to create a decent mini movie. Alan and I tried last semester, and it was a complete failure. I'll try again, no doubt, but it can be frustrating. This summer does offer a lot of time for me to attempt to enter something in the First Cut! Film Festival, but I'll have to be inspired first...

Blending Bubbles

I brought a bubble machine the other day, and decided that I had to create an image using it! Have a peek:

While I've known the basics of layering in Photoshop for a long time, I have only started to experiment with the blending mode. For this image I mixed two separate photographs of my bubbles with the underlying image of myself. One of the image of bubbles was blended using 'Linear Light' mode, and the other was blended by 'Colour Burn'.

The frustrating thing about editing photographs is that it is difficult to know when you've pushed an image too far. Even as I wrote this blog, I decided to adjust my 'completed' image, because I realised that the lighting was just too harsh, even if it was close to the effect I was going for. The image that accompanies this post is the absolute final one. Well until I change my mind and open the PDF yet again...

Note: I actually did go back and change it again, I wanted to add a little more colour to my lips, so the I-promise-it's-final-this-time image has been uploaded to this post now. Ahh, PDF documents. Is the endless possibility for a new 'final' edit a gift or curse?

Beat Girl

Beat Girl

As a proud MPS (Media Production Society) member, I have had the opportunity to do some exciting and bizarre things. One of these fantastic experiences saw Alan popping a nondescript pill (DISCLAIMER: it was a tic-tac) and the both of us raving to our hearts content - to silence. We were extras on the set of the upcoming movie, 'Beat Girl'! Check out the trailer:

Despite the fact that the movie is only set to be released online and the fact that Alan and I are merely extras in the background for a second, we are still planning to host our own premiere when it's released. We'll take any excuse for a party!

A Taste of the Tea

Another short post with two more images from the recent instalment of the Teacup Chronicles photo shoot. I plan to write up a longer post about the making of Chapter Two: The Honourable Defence with a selection of the best images, when I have enough time to devote to a big write-up. I despise an empty and picture-free blog, so here's (another!) taster from the Teacup...

The Honourable Defence Teaser Trailer

Sorcha pieced together a little teaser trailer for chapter two of the Teacup Chronicles: The Honourable Defence. Thanks to Paul McGranaghan for shooting most of the video. He was our seriously overworked 'props guy'.

Can't wait to share a whole heap of the finished photographs with the world! Until then, here's one completed image from the day:

Model: Shauna McDaid

Merry Men & Women

Today was the day that we went out to take photographs for the second instalment of the Teacup Chronicles photo shoot. The location was Grianan of Aileach in Burt, Co. Donegal. The props consisted of a bow and arrows, shield, sword, spear and the set was completed with the teacups and saucers. Thank you to Eireann Edge for giving us a loan of your equipment.

We had decided prior to meeting at the ring-fort that we would dress as if we were Robin Hood's Merry Men (and women)!

The photographs will be edited and sorted out over the coming days, for now here's one of Shauna and Sorcha, taken and edited by myself.

Having a cuppa, a break from being warrior queens.
