Beautiful Views at Inishowen Head

Inishowen Peninsula View

Sometimes I become so wrapped up in city life that I forget the sense of calm that comes with a country walk. I may be an unapologetic city-girl, but I have to admit there's something special about a wander along a quiet country path. Especially when that path is on the coast of Donegal on an uncharacteristically warm day.

My mum and I couldn't have timed this walk any better, weather wise. For the majority of the walk, the clouds shielded the sun, which meant that we weren't uncomfortably hot. Then, as we came to the end of the walk and closer to the beach, the clouds faded, presenting a beaming sun. Perfect timing for a dip in the sea before driving home before the rainclouds rolled in.

I don't think I'll ever tire of sharing pictures of Donegal online. It really is an underrated spot of beauty. As we walked down the deserted pathway, we wondered aloud whether there are other places like this - beautiful places that tourists don't know about. There must be, of course, but how would we have heard about them? If you know of any, please do let me know - I promise it'll be our secret!

You Look Disgusting: A Blogger's Perspective

With over 8 million views and counting, there's a good chance that you've already seen Em Ford's 'You Look Disgusting' video. If you haven't, I recommend you click here and check it out. Since posting images of her make-up-free face online, in which her acne and scarring are clearly visible, Em has received countless cruel comments concerning her appearance. The short film deals with this, putting a spotlight on the cyberbullying that is rife on social media.

The video is clearly aimed towards Em's young female audience, the take-home message being you are beautiful, don't let anyone else tell you otherwise. It's an important message, sure, but there's another issue being addressed here, albeit implicitly. It's an issue which is particularly relevant for another crowd: bloggers. Or more broadly, content creators.

For content creators, the video shouts-out: create and share, in spite of the haters. How could Em inspire the thousands of viewers, many of whom also suffer from acne, without showing her bare face? By putting herself out there, Em became a target for trolls, who, safe in their anonymity, decided to leave hateful comments. But the abuse she received didn't stop her from creating and sharing her creations with the world so that she could inspire others. In creating 'You Look Disgusting' she simultaneously gave a virtual thumbs up to the content creators out there and a virtual middle finger to the trolls that try to bring them down.

So what can us bloggers learn from 'You Look Disgusting'? Simply: be fearless in creating and sharing content online. Take onboard constructive criticism but shrug off the needlessly horrible comments. Don't let trolls stifle your creativity. As the old adage goes: haters gon' hate.

June Favourites

June Favourites - Tangle Teezer, Candles, Travel Clutch

Well, it's a few days into July and I'm about to natter on about what I enjoyed in the month of June. Ah well, in the spirit of 'better late than never' let's roll on with what I was loving in the last month...

Carolyn Donnelly Travel Clutch

I think the Carolyn Donnelly home section of Dunnes Store is the happy place of my materialistic side. Every item there is so my kind of quirky/pretty/cute that I can't help but make a purchase, or add another item to the wishlist when funds are low! Luckily, when I spotted this item I had a bit of spare cash. The oriental look to it was what first captured my attention. Then, I peered inside and to my delight I saw that it had different compartments for all my travel documents. It's the essential travel item that I never knew I needed - but now I couldn't leave the country without it! It was great to be able to hold on to this when walking through the airport, knowing that I'd be able to present my boarding pass, passport and any other documents without needing to root through my hand luggage.

Dunnes Stores Candles

Another Dunnes Stores find were these candles that sit in the cute tins shown above. They are are everything I could ever want in a homeware item. Pretty packaging? Check. Pastel colours? Check. Lovely scent? Check. What more could I wish for?

I've wanted a Tangle Teezer since I saw Gabriella Lindley chat about it in one of her YouTube uploads. Since then I've stumbled across countless other YoutTubers praising it in their videos. Seriously, the Tangle Teezer PR person needs a raise!

Before I went to China, my mum surprised me by gifting me this Tangle Teezer, with the notion that its size would make it perfect for travelling. Sure enough, it slotted into my suitcase nicely, leaving plenty of room for all the clothes I was bringing with me. Of course, its handy size wouldn't matter if it couldn't handle my unruly curls. Fortunately, it could! By detangling the ends before I move on to the rest of my hair, I've found that the knots come out pretty easily, and it's far less painful than attacking my hair with a regular comb. So I can confirm, the YouTubers were right to go on about it: it's definitely worth the hype!

June, you were good to me... Now to see what July has in store! Thanks for reading! Oh, and make sure to follow me on Instagram and Bloglovin' to keep up-to-date.
